Herbal Hair Rinse

When the Stars align, you might have a good hair day. When that doesn’t happen….go ahead and make your Herbal Hair Rinse!

This recipe is SO easy to make, it just takes a little patience 🙂

Lets get to the ingredients & measurements then we will discuss their benefits!

Herbal Hair Rinse

2 Cups ~ Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

6 Cups ~ Distilled, Spring or Rain Water

1/4 Cup of Each Dried Herbs of Your Choice

20 Drops of Essential Oils of Your Choice

Combine Vinegar and Herbs in a Glass Container, shake to mix and leave in a dark space for 4 weeks.

After 4 weeks, strain and your Water & Essential Oils! That’s it! I like to add my Herbal Hair Rinse to bottles with a spout like pictured above. Leave remainder in your refrigerator to stay fresh!

How to use: Every other shampoo, apply your Herbal Hair Rinse to the roots of your hair, massaging for 1 minute or so. Then rinse!

There are so many herbs and essential oils to choose from depending on your hair type. I have comprised this list of common Herbs & Essential Oils based on hair types & colors. For my recipe, I used Dried Lavender Flowers, Chamomile & Red Roses & Essential Oils of: 10 Drops of Lavender, 5 Drops of Rosemary & 5 Drops of Tea Tree.

Common Herbs & Essential Oils For Your Hair

Lemon:

Lemon is excellent source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is good for scalp health and super helpful in eliminating dandruff, hair loss and some others hair and scalp conditions.

Lavender:

Lavender is well known as anti skin inflammation and excellent to treat dryness in the scalp that could lead to several scalp conditions especially dandruff.

Parsley:

Since ancient time, Parsley is used traditionally as hair a tonic. By applying the hair tonic made of parsley regularly could help reducing hair loss and preventing weak hair. Parsley is a very common herb used in day to day cooking. A rich source of vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, iron, calcium, potassium and manganese, parsley helps a lot in hair growth. This herb is also rich in anti-oxidant properties as well. The oil of parsley herb can be used to solve the issue of hair loss as well as scalp dryness. Daily application of this herbal oil on scalp can improve the texture of your hair.

Rose:

The health benefits of Rose Water for hair growth are by eliminating the excessive oil produced in the scalp and maintaining the pH balance to prevent dandruff and other scalp conditions.

Peppermint:

Peppermint oil could prevent hair loss by stimulating hair growth and at the menthol content found in peppermint is also good to refresh the scalp and hair.

Rosemary:

Some studies have found out that rosemary oil could help maintaining healthy scalp by stimulating the blood circulation and encountering hair loss to prevent baldness. This natural antioxidant herb helps in stimulating the hair follicles and improving hair growth rate. It helps in controlling premature hair loss as well as premature graying hair. It is also for dry scalp that often results in dandruff.  People also use this herb regularly to get relief from itchy scalp. 

Sage:

Sage contains antibiotics which is good to heal skin especially the scalp that may affect the hair growth.

Thyme:

Thyme contains anti-fungal properties and powerful antiseptic along with some essential benefits of minerals such as health benefits of potassium, selenium and magensium to promote healthy hair growth.

Yarrow:

For centuries, yarrow has been well known as home remedy to some scalp conditions from dandruff, dried scalp and hair loss.

Ginger:

There are a lot of benefits of Ginger and among the amazing benefits of this herb, ginger is also excellent to increase circulation in the hair follicles for faster and healthier growth.

Ginseng:

The herb helps the body to adapt to stress, which is one of the prime reasons behind hair loss. It also improves the absorption of oxygen by blood thus improving the blood circulation. This herb has also been found beneficial in treating the issue of excessive hair loss. Another benefit of ginseng is hair softening.

Nettle:

The main benefit of this herb includes improving the texture of hair. It also increases blood flow to the scalp and help oxygen reach the hair follicles. It also blocks the conversion of testosterone into DHT. It is a known fact that when the level of DHT is more it causes the problem of hair loss in both men and women.  It is also an effective natural herb to solve the problem of dandruff. 

Chamomile:

This herb is a rich source of vitamin A, calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc and manganese, which are essential nutrients for healthy hair. The antiseptic quality of this herb helps in preventing the formation of dandruff on the scalp. It also strengthens and revitalizes hair. People with blond hair, can use this herb to lighten the color of their hair naturally with time.

Dandelion:

With the goodness of vitamin A, B-complex, C, and E, this herb helps a lot in hair growth. It also has biotin, choline, inositol, calcium, potassium, iron, linolenic acid, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus, potash, resins, proteins and sulfur which are good for hair growth. Horsetail:

Silica is one of the elements available in horsetail plant that can help in promoting new hair growth. The potassium, manganese and selenium available in this herb also encourage hair growth. All these elements work together to strengthen hair follicles and improving the blood circulation to the scalp area. Regular use of this herb can even make your hair feel smooth and shiny.
